Introduction to wax carving for lost wax casting
Make Your Own Quality Jewellery
Discover the basics of jewellery making in this hands-on Wax Carving Workshop. Perfect for beginners, this class teaches you how to shape and design jeweller’s wax to create your own rings, pendants and/or small sculptures. What You’ll Learn - The different types of wax used in jewelry - How to use carving tools like files, knives, and wax pens - Simple design steps to turn your sketch into a 3D wax model - Core carving techniques for shaping, smoothing, and adding details - A clear overview of how the lost-wax casting process works Term Overview (4 hours of class time each fortnight) - 1st class you will make a simple ring - 2nd class you will make a pendant - 3rd and 4th class, you can expand on your skills and discuss possible projects with teacher - 5th class will be cleaning up the castings to take home with you! What You’ll Create - Your finished wax models will need to be sent off-site for casting, for an additional cost. Small jewellery pieces usually cost around $30-$50 each. - You will also have the basic skills to keep creating on your own at home Who This Class Is For: - This class is open to everyone — beginners, current students, and returning students. - Ages 18+. (We can accommodate 16–17-year-olds, but a guardian must contact us prior to booking.) What to Wear: - Casual clothing is fine, but you must wear enclosed shoes, tie long hair back, and avoid loose or flowing garments. If you arrive in unsuitable footwear, you won’t be able to participate. - If you wear glasses for close-up work, please bring them. We suggest grabbing a meal from the Charleston Hotel from 5:30pm onwards, just three doors away, or pick up a hot drink from Hope Blooms Café, located two doors down prior to coming to class. Please note: A minimum of four participants is required to run this class.

Cancellation Policy
We do not offer refunds for missed classes and a make up class is not guaranteed. If you are unable to make it to a class, please let us know as soon as possible. The more notice you give, the better chance you have of getting a make-up class. If you do miss a class, you will only be offered a make up class during the same term you have booked for. We will endeavour to provide a make-up class if you give us at least 2 weeks’ notice, but it is not guaranteed. If you are unable to provide 2 weeks’ notice, you can send a friend in your place, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Please send name, number and email of your replacement, when you notify us of your absence. Eligibility criteria include: 18 years or older, can be trusted to safely use the workspace.
